Lesson 2 – Why Write for these Sites?
Well, the money is the obvious answer, but there are other benefits to writing for pay. They include:
Self Promotion – If you get your writing published for a site like Associated Content, you can put that on your resume. It’s a fairly simple thing to get published, but it looks very impressive to employers, and gives you credibility in a number of fields. If you’re looking for a career in writing, this is a great way to give you practice and the ability to support yourself while working on getting a higher paid position.
Website Promotion – If you own a website or blog, and you want to get some visitors, then write articles which include links to things on your blog or website, or write press releases to turn into news organizations. This will add to your pagerank and can give you visitors based on click-throughs.
The Money! – This is so important that its really worth mentioning twice. Most jobs in the Writing section pay an average of $2.50 per article up front, and you can occasionally earn bonuses based on the quality of the work or the pageviews you’re generating. That means that with a little effort and a little know-how, you can generate hundreds of dollars per month with this, even if you just work at it part time. And it provides some decent income while you take some time out to write your novel.
